Daniel Ackerman is an award-winning audio journalist specializing in science, environment and economics. He reports for Marketplace, a nationally syndicated radio show from American Public Media. He also writes the Seabed Spotlight newsletter about deep-sea mining. Previously, he covered climate change solutions for Gimlet Media’s How to Save a Planet. His audio stories have aired on NPR, Marketplace, and 99%Invisible. His writing appears in National Geographic, The Washington Post, and Scientific American. Daniel’s work was awarded first place in Audio Scripting from the Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) for his story about industrial lubricants (more exciting than you thought!), and first place in Best Use of Sound from the PMJA for his story about a centuries-old wine making tradition that crossed the Atlantic. Daniel holds a PhD in climate change ecology. Daniel has reported from the bottom of a sinkhole and interviewed heads-of-state, though not at the same time.
